L’Etranger, the inaugural exhibition at new independent Nottingham gallery Hand and Heart, features work by Tether artist Hugh Dichmont, in collaboration with Tether associate Aaron Juneau, as well as work by artists Anna Kraay and Luke Norton.
Taking inspiration from Albert Camus’ 1942 novel, often translated as “The Outsider”, the artists have created new works which respond to the themes and philosophy of the novel and Camus’ oevre as a whole. To accompany the exhibition will be a publication produced by writers collective Open Hand, in which Hugh Dichmont discusses L’Etranger’s protagonist’s role as prophet of ‘the absurd’; Camus’ career defining philosophical concept. Also featuring poems by Aaron Juneau and illustrations by Anna Kraay.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 16th of April for the private view (All welcome), and will represent the first steps of independent gallery Hand and Heart, Derby Road, a dedicated environment for the exhibition of contemporary art, specialising in photography, film and fine art. Alongside its programme of exhibitions Hand and Heart will play host to events such as live music, lectures and workshops, and provide a permanent social space, as a cafe and bookshop.
